FreedomWorks Letter Support H. Con. Res 37 Republican Study Committee Budget Proposal

Dear FreedomWorks member,

As one of our million-plus FreedomWorks members nationwide, I urge you to contact your Congressman and ask him or her to vote YES on H. Con. Res 37, the Republican Study Committee’s FY2012 budget proposal. A recent poll conducted for FreedomWorks by Frank Luntz shows that 78 percent of swing-state voters believe that there is no excuse for failing to balance the budget within ten years. We applaud the Republican Study Committee for introducing their “Honest Solutions: Fiscal Year 2012 Budget” which does so. The positive aspects of the budget proposal include:

·         Balancing the budget in less than ten years.
·         Cutting federal spending by $300 billion in the first year alone.
·         Cutting federal spending by $9.1 trillion in the first decade.
·         Returning spending back to FY2005 levels.
·         Bringing spending down to 18 percent of Gross Domestic Product (GDP)—equal to average revenue.
·         Completely paying off the national debt by 2050.
·         Repealing ObamaCare.
·         Reducing Medicaid costs by block granting it to the states, improving the incentive to spend wisely.
·         Reforming Social Security and Medicare to improve their long-term sustainability.
·         Improving Medicare by introducing competition and market forces after 2021.
·         Simplifying, broadening, and lowering tax rates to promote economic growth and create jobs.

We would also have liked to have seen entire departments eliminated in this budget, as done in the budget proposed by Sen. Rand Paul (R-K.Y.), a personal ownership option for Social Security, and a harder look at waste at the Pentagon. But it’s clear the RSC budget proposal calls for serious long-term reforms to address our mounting debt. It contrasts sharply with President Obama’s budget proposal which never balances the budget, dramatically raises taxes harming economic growth, and fails to reform the entitlement programs that are the biggest part of the federal budget. The RSC’s budget will set us in the right direction to restore the principles of a limited government.

I urge you to call your representatives and ask them to vote YES on H. Con. Res. 37. We will count their vote on the Republican Study Committee’s FY2012 budget proposal as a KEY VOTE when calculating the FreedomWorks Economic Freedom Scorecard for 2011. The Economic Freedom Scorecard is used to determine eligibility for the Jefferson Award, which recognizes members of Congress with voting records that support economic freedom.

Sincerely,

Matt Kibbe
