Tell Your Representatives to Sign Republican Study Committee Letter Urging No Tax Increases in the Super Committee Deal

Dear FreedomWorks member,

As one of our million-plus FreedomWorks members nationwide, I urge you to contact your representative and ask him or her to sign onto the Republican Study Committee letter to urge the Joint Select Committee on Deficit Reduction (the “Super Committee) not to increase taxes on the American people. The so-called Super Committee has until November 23 to recommend a plan that will reduce the deficit by $1.5 trillion over the next decade. Media reports are signaling that the Super Committee is considering tax hikes behind closed doors. Members of Congress should sign onto the Republican Study Committee letter to make their opposition to tax increases in the Super Committee known.

Tax hikes must be off the table. Raising taxes during the current economic downturn will further destroy jobs and stagnant economic growth. According to the Congressional Budget Office (CBO), tax revenues will reach or exceed the historical average of 18 percent of economic output by the end of this decade. The Super Committee should focus on cutting spending rather than further raising taxes on American families to reduce the deficit.

Washington has a spending problem, not a revenue problem. It is fiscally irresponsible to raise taxes on Americans who are struggling to make ends meet. Washington should instead cut spending and lower taxes on all Americans. The Super Committee should propose making the tax code lower, flatter and simpler which would boost economic growth and simultaneously reduce the federal deficit. I urge you to contact your representative and ask him or her to sign onto the Republican Study Committee Letter to urge the Super Committee to not raise taxes on Americans.

Sincerely,
