The Bad News About ObamaCare Keeps Piling Up

In the Wall Street Journal, Karl Rove analyzes President Obama’s repeatedly stated promise that all Americans can keep their health insurance.

Throughout the turbulent legislative process, the President continually promised Americans that they could keep their insurance.  Unfortunately, this will not be true.  Why?  First, there were hundreds of compromises and deals.  Second, no politician read the bill.  Only a few bureaucrats had competent familiarity with the legislation.  None-the-less, ObamaCare is a promulgated law that will affect every American.

Because of the corrupt process, only now are employers beginning to research the law, and calculate their options.  Many are anticipating dropping all health insurance and opting to pay the $2,000 fine.  How many?  Rove does not speculate.  Worse, the rules being written by the bureaucrats relating to “grandfathered in” employer provided insurance plans.  Because of the onerous restrictions, the government projects 87 to 115 million Americans will be forced out of their employer provided health insurance.  

What about the President’s promise?  Rove states:

Either Mr. Obama was stunningly blind to these perverse effects when he promised people could keep their coverage, or he felt that admitting his plan would collapse employer-provided health coverage could keep it from passing. Either way—self-deception or deliberate deceit—health reform is going to turn out far differently than was promised. And because more workers will be dumped into subsidized coverage, taxpayers are likely to pay much more than the $1 trillion-plus price tag claimed by ObamaCare advocates for its first 10 years.

The legislative process was an egregious abuse of power.  Realistically, politics is predominately about power, which is prone to be abused.  James Madison understood and feared the coercive power of government:  The essence of Government is power; and power, lodged as it must be in human hands, will ever be liable to abuse.

Presently, in America both the Democrats and Republicans have often abused their power.  Only the American voter can restore the constitutional design of a small and limited government.
