It’s Good to Be King: The Obamas Take Another Lavish Vacation

While Americans struggle to pay bills, President Obama and the first family are spending millions of your taxpayer dollars on a vacation in the ultimate one-percenter destination – Martha’s Vineyard.

Not content to leave the first dog Bo behind, the President had the pooch flown to their vacation home on his own MV-22 Osprey, a half helicopter, half prop plane that looks like a something out of a sci-fi movie. As the Obamas and their first dog vacation for nine days in Martha’s Vineyard, Washington is dealing with questions of spying, a sputtering Obamacare rollout and bureaucrats illegally targeting conservative organizations for extra scrutiny.

The Obamas have unfortunately had to downgrade their housing for this trip to a home that is only 5000 sq. feet and worth a measly $7.6 million. In the past they have stayed at a 20-acre estate, but it has since been sold and is now unavailable. When the Obamas travel it’s not just the family, they have to bring along an army of Secret Service agents. More than 70 hotel rooms have been booked for the President’s security detail costing the taxpayers an estimated $24,000 per night or more than $217,000 over the nine day trip.

The White House sees no problem in these expenses:

Jay Carney, White House spokesman, said: “Obviously, when you’re President of the United States, you carry a little baggage when you travel. And that’s true whether it’s on a summit, international meeting, a domestic trip, or for a vacation.”

The President’s expensive jaunt to Martha’s Vineyard is only the latest in a series of excessive trips. The vacations he has taken to Hawaii have cost American taxpayers $20 million during his presidency, but that’s nothing compared to his recent trip to Africa which cost as much as $100 million.

Here is a description of what the first family took with them to Africa:

The Obamas will be accompanied by hundreds of Secret Service agents and staff, which stack up transportation and accommodation costs. Military cargo planes will bring 56 vehicles including 14 limousines and three trucks loaded with bulletproof glass to cover the windows of the hotels where the Obamas will stay. Fighter jets will fly in the air space above the first family to provide round the clock protection.

America’s middle-class is facing higher prices for food, energy and gas to fill their cars, disappearing jobs and skyrocketing health care costs via his signature legislation, Obamacare. Clearly that doesn’t faze the First Family. You have to wonder, does Obama consider himself a president or a king?
