CSE Urges Congress to Pass PNTR for China

This week the House of Representatives will vote on H.R. 4444, which would grant Permanent Normal Trade Relations (PNTR) to the People’s Republic of China. On behalf of our 250,000 members, Citizens for a Sound Economy (CSE) strongly urges each member of the House to support this measure, and will be key voting this legislation. By voting yes Congress will be doing what is best for the future of the American e-conomy and the Chinese people.

Under PNTR China will eliminate high-tech tariffs in five years and remove investment restrictions on U.S. business. The U.S. will gain access to China’s vast Internet and telecommunications market, which has over one billion potential consumers. Contrary to the claims of big labor, China will not gain any further access to U.S. markets that they have not already enjoyed for 20 years. So, by supporting PNTR Congress would gain a new market without giving anything in return, making it a win-win situation for all U.S. industries.

When we look at the facts, it is clear that Americans will enjoy long term benefits from a more open and engaged China. CSE hopes Congress will have the courage to act and vote yes on H.R. 4444.
