Awkward: The Podesta Group Hosted a Breakfast Fundraiser for Thad Cochran

According to Politico, the Podesta Group hosted a breakfast fundraiser for six-term Mississippi Senator Thad Cochran this morning, costing $2,000 for PACs and $1,000 for individuals. The Podesta Group’s D.C. office was an odd choice for a location for a troubled incumbent looking to court fiscal conservatives in Mississippi, given that the group’s founder and Chairman Tony Podesta is a Democratic power lobbyist and fundraiser.

“Thad Cochran is not just out of touch, he’s generally disinterested in the concerns of Mississippians,” commented Russ Walker, National Political Director of FreedomWorks for America. “Real leadership starts with authenticity and engaging with the individuals you committed to represent. Clearly Chris McDaniel is committed to represent Mississippi, while Thad Cochran is committed to represent the K Street lobbying class. It’s time for an upgrade, and Chris McDaniel is the clear choice for conservatives.”

FreedomWorks for America is organizing sign-blitzing, phone banking and neighborhood canvassing efforts across the state leading up to the primary on June 3. Over 20,000 yard signs and 60,000 door hangers have been sent to support Chris McDaniel to-date.
