FreedomWorks Celebrates the Defeat of Common Core in Oklahoma

Activists sent about 5,700 messages and 1,000 calls urging Governor Fallin to take action against the education takeover

Washington, DC- FreedomWorks activists across Oklahoma are celebrating the defeat of the Common Core top-down education standards that hurt children and families across the state. On June 5, Governor Mary Fallin signed HB 3399 into law, replacing the federal education standards with a more decentralized curriculum.

In the days leading up to the signing deadline, grassroots activists sent about 5,700 Messages and over 1,000 phone calls to Governor Fallin, urging her to sign the bill.

FreedomWorks Director of Grassroots Whitney Neal commented, “Thank you to all of the activists and coalition partners that made their voices heard, and to Governor Fallin for signing this critical bill. Governor Fallin has returned power to local communities, where the biggest educational impact can be made. This is a victory for the students, parents, and teachers of Oklahoma as well as anyone concerned with the future of public education.”

“Oklahoma’s math and language arts standards will now truly be state-led and developmentally appropriate. Let this be a rallying cry to other states struggling with Common Core- with grassroots pressure, it’s possible to get rid of Common Core.”
