FreedomWorks Foundation Announces New Executive Director

FreedomWorks Foundation today announced that Curt Levey has joined the team in the role of executive director. Levey will oversee the strategy and activities of FreedomWorks Foundation, which is dedicated to engaging and educating all Americans on limited government, free markets, and the rule of law.

“We have big plans for FreedomWorks Foundation in 2016 and beyond. We’re planning to engage the Obama administration’s bureaucratic machine by unleashing our grassroots community on harmful regulations that will drive up costs on consumers or pose a threat to their freedoms,” said FreedomWorks Foundation Chairman Adam Brandon. “With Curt at the helm of FreedomWorks Foundation, we’ll be able to engage in these important regulatory battles. His extensive knowledge of the Constitution and commitment to the rule of law will also provide us with the ability to provide our activist community information on important cases working their way through the federal court system and prepare FreedomWorks to weigh in on possible judicial appointments.”

“I look forward to leading FreedomWorks Foundation, as well as continuing the work I did at the Committee for Justice, which is now a project of FreedomWorks. Having devoted my career to fighting for constitutionally limited government through litigation, education, and engagement in judicial confirmation battles, I understand the tremendous value of enlisting FreedomWorks’ grassroots army of activists and its other formidable resources in this fight,” said Levey. “At the same time, I’m proud to be adding my expertise on judicial and constitutional issues to the many strengths that make FreedomWorks the premier organization fighting for liberty.”

“I’m especially excited about heading FreedomWorks Foundation’s Regulatory Action Center. By mobilizing FreedomWorks members to fight overreaching federal regulations before they become law, the Center takes aim at the ever-growing regulatory state, perhaps the greatest threat to constitutionally limited government in America,” he added.

About Curt Levey

Curt A. Levey is the Executive Director of the FreedomWorks Foundation and President of the Committee For Justice (CFJ). After graduating Harvard Law School with honors and clerking for the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Sixth Circuit, Curt served as Director of Legal and Public Affairs at the Center for Individual Rights (CIR), a public interest law firm in Washington, DC. There he worked on landmark Supreme Court cases, including the University of Michigan affirmative action cases and the successful constitutional challenge to the Violence Against Women Act.

After CIR, he moved to the U.S. Department of Education’s Office for Civil Rights, where he headed the Title IX policy group until joining CFJ. He has served on the Virginia State Advisory Committee of the U.S. Commission on Civil Rights, as well as on the executive committee of the Federalist Society’s civil rights practice group.

Curt’s articles on the judiciary, constitutional law, and civil rights have appeared in leading national newspapers and magazines, as well as in law reviews and other legal publications. He has been a guest on more than two hundred radio and television programs, and has spoken to dozens of live audiences, including at bar association events and the nation’s top law schools.

Curt also has an M.S. and B.A. in computer science from Brown University. He worked in the field of artificial intelligence (AI) before attending law school and invented a new type of AI technology, for which he wrote a successful patent application.
