Obama’s $10 Per Barrel Tax on Oil Is a Terrible Idea

Following a report that President Obama will propose a $10 per barrel tax on oil to pay for green transportation programs, FreedomWorks Legislative Affairs Manager Josh Withrow commented:

“This is a terrible idea. But that’s what we’ve come to expect from this administration. Just when Americans are finally seeing some relief at the gas pump, President Obama decides to trot out a tax hike that will be passed on to consumers when they fill up their vehicles. Once again, this White House is using tax policy in an attempt to change our behavior so it can pursue its radical environmental agenda. Transportation policy should be decided and funded at the state level. Taxpayers in North Carolina shouldn’t be forced to pay for high-speed rail boondoggles in California.”
