FreedomWorks Urges President-Elect Trump to Appoint Rep. Tim Huelskamp to Serve as Agriculture Secretary

FreedomWorks today urged President-elect Donald Trump to appoint Rep. Tim Huelskamp (R-Kans.) to serve as secretary of the Department of Agriculture in his administration. Rep. Huelskamp, who will leave Congress in January, grew up on his family’s farm and earned his doctorate in Political Science, with a focus on agriculture policy, from American University.

“There is no one better suited to serve as the next secretary of Agriculture than Rep. Huelskamp. He understands the needs of America’s farmers, but he also realizes the failures of prevailing agriculture policy that prevails in Congress,” said FreedomWorks CEO Adam Brandon. “Farm bills passed by Congress promote a culture of cronyism and corporate welfare that must end. Rep. Huelskamp stood up to these big government policies, and the Washington political elite sought a pound of flesh.”

Conservative blogs, including Conservative Review and The Resurgent, have rallied behind Rep. Huelskamp as the best choice for the cabinet position. Rep. Huelskamp has a 97 percent lifetime score on FreedomWorks’ Congressional Scorecard, which recognizes Members of the House and Senate who consistently vote to support economic freedom and individual liberty.

“Picking Rep. Huelskamp to serve in this role would be yet another sign that President-elect Trump will ‘drain the swamp’ and promote a common sense agriculture policy,” Brandon added.
