Support the A-PLUS Act, H.R. 719

On behalf of FreedomWorks’ activist community, I urge you to contact your representative and urge him or her to support the Academic Partnerships Lead Us to Success (A-PLUS) Act, H.R. 719, introduced by Rep. Mark Walker (R-N.C.). This bill will put education back in the hands of local and state governments.

The A-PLUS Act aims to prioritize academic achievement and make schools and communities accountable for the success of all students, especially disadvantaged students.

By giving states and local communities the flexibility to determine what their children need to excel, all parties are winners. The A-PLUS Act gives states the ability to consolidate all funding for programs under the Elementary and Secondary Education Act (ESEA) in order to improve educational opportunities and “reduce unnecessary fiscal and accounting requirements.” The bill also strengthens state and local control by providing the option to decline participation in cumbersome requirements attached to federal education programs.

This bill will provide the necessary impact for education within our communities. It restores local control of education and empowers parents, not big government bureaucrats.

For these reasons, FreedomWorks supports the A-PLUS Act, H.R. 719. As Rep. Walker acknowledges, “Innovation starts in our communities, not in Washington.” Please contact your representative to ask him or her to cosponsor the A-PLUS Act to give American children the opportunity to grow and learn in the best educational environment possible, one that specifically caters to the needs of their communities.

Sincerely,

Adam Brandon, President and CEO, FreedomWorks
