Rein in the Surveillance State

FreedomWorks Vice President of Legislative Affairs Jason Pye released this statement following the release of the surveillance memo:

"Congress had the opportunity to address the concerns with FISA to ensure that it wasn’t used as a political tool or used to warrantlessly access incidentally collected communications. Unfortunately, many members were unaware of the contents of the HPSCI memo when the FISA Amendments Reauthorization Act was passed by Congress. Whether some would have voted against the bill if they had known is an open question, but not releasing the memo until after the bill has passed both chambers of Congress is an instance of legislative malpractice.

"We hope that the memo and the investigation into the Obama administration’s use of surveillance will unite conservatives to reform FISA and protect our rights explicitly codified in the Fourth Amendment. Armed with this information, the American people are better equipped to hold unelected bureaucrats accountable to our Constitution."
