New Study Shows FDA Commissioner Gottlieb’s Approach on E-Cigarettes is Wrong

WASHINGTON, D.C. — In response to the recent study conducted in Britain that showed that e-cigarettes are nearly twice as effective as other measures for quitting smoking, Patrick Hedger, FreedomWorks Foundation’s Director of Policy, commented:

“Tobacco use kills 480,000 Americans annually, so why is Commissioner Gottlieb trying to ban safer alternatives that help people quit smoking? This study, funded by the U.K.’s National Institute for Health Research demonstrates exactly why E-cigs and vaping products are a benefit to public health.

“The cost to public health of smoking is obviously enormous and no one knows this better than the citizens of the U.K. where nearly all healthcare costs are borne directly by the government and taxpayers. So when U.K. health officials are embracing E-cigs and vaping products, the idea that Commissioner Gottlieb would even consider banning these products borders on insanity.”
