FreedomWorks Statement in Response to White House Support for Passing Surprise Billing Legislation

WASHINGTON, D.C. — In response to President Trump announcing that his administration will be working with Congress to pass surprise billing legislation, Sarah Anderson, FreedomWorks Federal Affairs Manager, commented:

“We are disappointed to hear that President Trump is turning on his commitment to free-market healthcare by putting his support behind increased regulations as the ‘solution’ to prevent surprise billing. Without a doubt, countless Americans are harmed by drastically high prices from out-of-network emergency and non-emergency care, and this is tragic.

"But, mandates that out-of-network care simply be treated as in-network care is akin to putting a band-aid on a bullet hole. With this ‘solution,’ patients, will continue to bear the price of surprise billing, as the burden shifts to increase other healthcare and health insurance costs that are already too high. Instead, the correct answer is to loosen federal healthcare regulations, which will allow networks to expand and choice to increase naturally, not artificially.”
