FreedomWorks Statement in Response to House Hearing on Single-Payer Healthcare

WASHINGTON, D.C. — In response to the hearing today in the House Ways and Means Committee, “Pathways to Universal Health Coverage,” on single-payer health coverage, Jason Pye, FreedomWorks Vice President of Legislative Affairs, commented:

“Single-payer healthcare, ‘Medicare for All’ or otherwise, is a wolf in sheep’s clothing that will only do harm to Americans. Single-payer healthcare will essentially eliminate private health insurance, inflate costs, and reduce the access to and quality of care. Health insurance and healthcare are too costly, but these costs have only continued to rise. Policies grounded in limited government, market-based principles would lower costs and cover individuals with preexisting conditions. A virtual collectivization of America’s healthcare system through single-payer, though, would be $33 trillion disaster.”
