FreedomWorks Statement in Response to Launch of War Powers Caucus

WASHINGTON, D.C. — In response to the launch today of the bipartisan War Powers Caucus by Reps. Andy Biggs (R-Ariz.) and Ro Khanna (D-Cal.), Adam Brandon, FreedomWorks President, commented:

“Congress has for too long surrendered its Article I powers to the executive branch. In light of today’s pro-war rhetoric, it’s good to know that there are still elected officials in Washington like Reps. Biggs and Khanna who believe that Congress should assert itself in the realm of foreign policy. FreedomWorks applauds the launch of the War Powers Caucus and hopes that more Members will do their duty and reclaim Congress’ jurisdiction over the use of military force as laid out in Article I of the Constitution.”

“With the recent saber-rattling by the Washington establishment regarding Iran, it’s critical that President Trump stand by his campaign promise to keep the United States out of endless foreign wars. Contrary to what hawkish advocates say, war with Iran would jeopardize American national security and reverse the current trend of record American economic growth.”
