Capitol Hill Update: July 29, 2019

Schedule:

The Senate is in session this week. The House is in recess.

Senate:

The Senate returns today at 3:00 pm to consider the veto messages on three disapproval resolutions for arms sales, S.J.Res.36 (Saudi Arabia), S.J.Res.37 (United Arab Emirates), and S.J.Res.38 (Saudi Arabia). Around 5:30 pm, the Senate vote to veto override attempts of the three disapproval resolutions and on the cloture motion of Michael Liburdi to serve as a judge on the U.S. District Court for the District of Arizona. We haven’t heard of an exact time for the votes on the Generational Theft Act of 2019, H.R. 3877, but that will happen at some point this week. Although we’ve heard rumors of proposed amendments, we’re not sure how Majority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-Ky.) will handle those given that the House is now in recess.

House:

The House is in recess until Monday, September 9.
