FreedomWorks Statement in Response to House Passage of Megabus Spending Bills

WASHINGTON, D.C. — In response to the House’s passage today of the Consolidated Appropriations Act and the Further Consolidated Appropriations Act, both for Fiscal Year 2020, Adam Brandon, FreedomWorks’ president, commented:

“For leadership to require members to consider 2,313 pages of bills amounting to $1.4 trillion in spending after less than 24 hours is ridiculous. Governing by crisis and jamming these votes into one of the busiest weeks in Congress — largely due to other failures of governing — is the epitome of legislative malpractice.

“For rank-and-file members to vote aye on such monstrosities that they had not seen until yesterday evening would be even more appalling. The inability of so many to govern with any sort of prudence has resulted in our country getting the short end of the stick over and over again. The debt that will be created by these bills will fall on future generations for years to come. Millions of Americans clearly do not have the type of representation in Congress that they deserve, if their members are willing to fall in line for bills like these.”
