FLORIDIANS SHOULD REJECT MCKAY-PRUITT TAX PLAN

Treasure Coast residents have taken a hit from less tourism revenue and little job creation during the current economic downturn. Our state and local governments should not increase taxes on businesses (which pass these costs on to consumers) and add to the problem. One such example is Sen. Pruitt’s backing of the McKay proposal to increase taxes on basic products and services. It is advertised as a tax shift but closer examination reveals it is nothing more than a money grab from you and me.

If Florida is facing financial hard times it should spend less, as Gov. Bush has proposed. Every consumer should stand for less government, lower taxes and more economic freedom. The Pruitt-McKay proposal fails all three tests and should be defeated.
