FreedomWorks Foundation Reacts to Supreme Court’s Stay of EPA Anti-Coal Regulations

Following the Supreme Court’s decision to stay the Environmental Protection Agency’s Clean Power Plan, FreedomWorks Foundation Executive Director Curt Levey commented:

"Today’s extraordinary move by the Supreme Court, on top of its recent decision to review President Obama’s overreaching executive order on immigration, signals just how seriously the Justices view this Administration’s constitutionally dubious attempts to bypass Congress and unilaterally implement the President’s agenda across a wide range of issues."

"Had the Court denied the stay, a Supreme Court victory down the road for those challenging the Clean Power Plan would have been largely empty, as the EPA forced states and utilities to comply in the meantime. Instead, this stay will remain in place until the challenges have made their way through the Supreme Court, by which time Obama will likely have left office. Thus, the stay may well be a fatal blow to the EPA’s attempt to dramatically expand its power and to the Administration’s attempt to shove its climate change agenda down the throats of the American people. The clear winners today are the families and businesses that would have had to face substantially higher electric bills if the EPA got its way."
