FreedomWorks Statement in Response to House Passage of the Climate Action Now Act

WASHINGTON, D.C. — In response to the House’s passage of the Climate Action Now Act, Jason Pye, FreedomWorks Vice President of Legislative Affairs, commented:

“Once again, House Democrats appear to be more concerned with messaging to their base rather than governing. The Climate Action Now Act would force the United States to rejoin the non-binding Paris Climate Agreement from which President Trump withdrew in 2017. Virtually none of the signers of the Paris Agreement have met their emissions reduction targets, while in the same period the United States has led the world in greenhouse gas emissions reduction.

“President Obama tried to join the Paris Climate Agreement without the Senate’s consent. Only now that President Trump is in office do Democrats want Congress to become involved in joining the job-killing and ineffectual Paris Climate Agreement. We should continue to let the market, not intergovernmental agreements, lead the way in reducing emissions.”
