On Politicians and Saviors

It is a strange sign of the world in which we live that politicians are compared to Jesus Christ himself. It’s interesting, however, to look at the reactions to these bizarre proclamations. Let’s take a look at Barack Obama and Marco Rubio, for example. Both have been called a savior recently, but the reactions from the men were markedly different.

America - Brought to You By the Farmer

I’ll admit it, I only watch the Super Bowl for the commercials. Usually, my favorite is one of the funny commercials but, this year, I have to give the prize to “God Made a Farmer.” Yes, the woman who never gets sappy over television, books, or movies, got sappy over a commercial for a truck.

Why I Support School Choice

There seems to be the misconception that school choice advocates are either vigilante parents or rebel educators. They visualize parents storming the school with pitchforks and torches to rescue their children. They picture teachers and administrators leaping ninja-like to the other side of the fence to rage against the system. They couldn’t be more wrong. Take me, for example. I have yet to have any children, I’m not connected to the educational system in any way, and I love school choice. For the record, I do not own a torch and have never leapt a wall.

As Suspected, OWS Was Populated by White Guys with Money

Don’t pretend you didn’t notice. It’s ok, we all did. Those Occupy Wall Street folks, the trod-upon masses who just wanted a fair shake didn’t seem quite authentic. Watching the footage, you might have noticed the ubiquitousness of North Face jackets. You might have seen their iPhones and video cameras or their Macbooks. Maybe you saw that OWS seemed to feature a whole lot of white men for such a diverse city.

Public School District Forced to Compete in Los Angeles

Monopolies don't work, and one of the best things about school choice is that it forces educators and schools to compete against each other for students. This makes everyone step up their game, and the students are the ones to benefit. Some have questioned if public schools would be willing to compete in a free market setting but, in the wake of a parent trigger being invoked in Los Angeles, the local district is doing just that.

Mississippi Seeks A Brighter Future Through School Choice

Mississippi students have some of the weakest test scores in the nation but, as of today, the way is paved for better results and a brighter future. This morning, Mississippi’s House of Representatives passed a charter school bill (65-55), clearing one major hurdle. Now, differences between the House and Senate bills need to be resolved.

Oppressive Taxation Drives Out California's High-Earning Golfers

No matter how many times it is proven, there are those who refuse to accept that high rates of taxation reach a level of diminishing returns.Rich people often vote with their feet. Recently, this was in the news in France when actor Gerard Depardieu decided to escape the 75% tax rate under the new socialist government. Now we have a high-profile case right here at home.

School Choice Is A Civil Rights Issue

Here we stand, in the days between Martin Luther King, Jr. Day and National School Choice Week. To many, these two events might have little in common. If you scratch the surface, however, they are inextricably linked. In fact, many would agree that school choice is the civil rights issue of our time.
