Railroad Legislation Aims to Revive Failed Regulation

In March 2016, the Obama-era Department of Transportation (DOT) issued a Notice of Proposed Rulemaking that required there be at least two crewmembers aboard for all railroad operations. Thankfully, this unnecessary rule was never implemented, and American businesses would be safe from burdensome rules like this for at least the next four years under a new administration. Or so we thought...

"Politics as Usual" Is Still Alive and Well in Washington

In 2015, Congressman Mark Meadows (R-N.C.) started a movement to remove then-Speaker of the House, John Boehner (R-Ohio), from his position. Of this effort, Meadows said, "It's really more about trying to have a conversation on making this place work, where everybody's voice matters, where there's not a punitive culture. Hopefully, we'll have some discussion about that in the days and weeks to come."

Stop Shielding Airlines from Foreign Competition

Flying, an experience often taken for granted nowadays, can be a magical one for so many. It can deliver you to loved ones thousands of miles away in just a matter of hours. You can stare out the window into the majesty of the clouds, and gaze down at how far down the earth is below and be a part of something truly amazing. It is something older generations might have thought impossible and it is not an understatement to say that flight is one of the most significant achievements in human history.

Victory for Trade as Administration Rejects Boeing's Crony Request

Last month, the United States International Trade Commission (ITC) voted unanimously against Boeing in a trade case it brought against its rival, Bombardier. Boeing had argued that Bombardier had illegally harmed their business by offering Delta Airlines a series of jets at a low rate. This claim was dubious, and was a clear attempt to try and eliminate their competition. The ITC’s decision is a victory for trade and anti-cronyism.

Social Security is Going Bankrupt

There are no longer any convenient ways of avoiding the issue. Social Security is going bankrupt. In order to ensure that it doesn’t take the rest of the country down with the ship, Congress is going to have to grit its teeth, swallow hard, and grab a firm hold of the proverbial third rail of American politics. It is time.

No, The Tax Cuts and Jobs Act is NOT the Worst Bill in History

Shortly before the passage of the Tax Cuts and Jobs Act (H.R. 1), House Minority Leader, Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) took her opposition to tax cuts for millions of Americans to a new level on the House floor. She stood before her colleagues and proclaimed that the bill was “the worst bill in the history of the United States Congress.”
