COLUMBUS, OH- Today FreedomWorks, along with dozens of local Ohio Tea Party leaders, stood united for a press conference at the state capitol to defend the taxpayers of Ohio and to offer support for Senate Bill 5 (SB5). SB5 would remove automatic pay raises, introduce merit-based pay and reform the collective bargaining power of state and local employees. Following the press conference, grassroots leaders from across the state delivered hundreds of letters of support from the citizens of Ohio, urging their state representatives to vote YES on SB5.

Collective Bargaining Reform Bill Clears Ohio Senate

WASHINGTON, DC- Today, FreedomWorks cheered the success of Senate Bill 5 (SB5), which passed the Ohio State Senate by a narrow vote of 17-16. Senate Bill 5 is a piece of legislation that would remove automatic pay raises, introduce merit-based pay and restrict the collective bargaining power of state and local employees. This would help address Ohio’s budget crisis and lay the foundation for future job growth. Currently, the state of Ohio has a $10 billion deficit for 2011, and shed over 600,000 private sector jobs in the last ten years.

WASHINGTON, DC- FreedomWorks cheered the passage of SB1, The Opportunity Scholarship and Educational Improvement Tax Credit Act, which was passed today in the PA Senate Education Committee by a vote of 8-2. Pennsylvania currently has one of the worst SAT score averages in the nation. On the Pennsylvania System of School Assessment, only about half of 11th graders are proficient in math and reading.

A prominent Republican Tea Party activist has launched a campaign to oust Jeffrey Immelt, the chief executive of General Electric, from his appointment as head of a new advisory panel to President Barack Obama on jobs and competitiveness.The populist campaign underlines the deep divisions between traditional Republicans, who have been stalwart supporters of big industrial giants such as GE, and the ultra- conservative Tea Party movement, which views big corporations with as much suspicion as it does “big government”.
