"Final" Deadline Arrives for Health Insurance Exchanges, Majority of States Still Resisting ObamaCare

Today marked what was to be the final deadline for states to submit their plans for a state-federal partnership to set up a health insurance exchange in order to comply with ObamaCare.  However, with 27 states currently refusing to set up their own exchange, the Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) now finds itself needing to set up its own exchange in each of these states before the statutorily mandated October 1st deadline.

There's Still Time to Block ObamaCare Exchanges in Idaho!

Idaho is among the reddest of red states, and would seem to be an obvious frontrunner among the states resisting ObamaCare's health care exchanges.  Indeed, Idaho Governor C.L. "Butch" Otter has long been a vocal opponent of ObamaCare, and even signed an executive order banning his state's employees from enforcing ObamaCare.

Health Care Exchanges, Round 2

As I wrote in December, the fight over ObamaCare is far from over, and Round 1 went to the states.  So far, 27 states have resisted ObamaCare by refusing to participate in setting up a health care exchange, the bureaucratic mechanism for implementing the health care law.  See below:

The Fiscal Cliff Bill - Special Interests Profit While the Rest of Us Pay

It's like deja vu all over again.  The fiscal cliff bill, H.R. 8, was drafted behind closed doors, and lawmakers were given six minutes to read the 154-page bill before voting on it.  Once again, we apparently had to pass the bill to find out what's in it.

The Fiscal Cliff Aftermath: How They Voted

After weeks of backroom deals and fruitless negotiations with the White House and the Democrat-controlled Senate, the House and Senate passed a bill to supposedly avert the dreaded "fiscal cliff". The bill, H.R. 8, was titled "the American Taxpayer Relief Act of 2012".

The Lessons from Plan B

If President Obama and Senator Reid were actually negotiating in good faith, then one could argue that Speaker Boehner's Plan B was an acceptable, if unpalatable, compromise.  After all, it permanently extended the current tax rates for very nearly all Americans, eliminating the annual game of chicken in Congress over whether our taxes will automatically increase.
