FreePAC: Great Speakers and Great Training

FreedomWorks put on another of its great FreePAC events on Saturday, October 13, this time in front of a crowd of 1,600 in Phoenix, AZ and 13,000 over the Internet. As is always the case, the combination of training session and freedom rally proved to be a winner. The line up of speakers included Glenn Beck, with what many are calling his best speech ever. But I'd never heard Michelle Ugenti, Greg Abbott, Matt Salmon, or Jim Waring speak, and I came away impressed with all of them. Two more FreePAC events will happen before the election: October 19 in Kissimmee, Florida and October 26 in Schaumberg, Illinois.

Not Just A Debate

What Americans saw Wednesday night in Denver was not just a debate between two presidential candidates, but the contrast they’ve been wanting to see since 2008. It happened not because of a good night for one or a bad night for the other, but as a direct result of who the candidates are as people.

A Nonsense-Driven Fantasy Ad

A new ad for the Obama 2012 campaign came out. Ordinarily I watch those ads, shake my head, and continue on. In this case, however, the falsehoods and misconceptions are so awful that I had to call attention to it. Here is the ad, with commented transcript below.

Every Legislator Must Oppose the IRS Power Grab

The Obama Administration is trying to raise taxes without Congressional approval, and they really don't care what you think about it.  Every legislator, whether state or federal, must oppose the usurpation of legislative prerogative. Citizens should oppose the move, which will raise their taxes without even a vote in Congress. At National Review Online,  Michael Cannon and Jonathan Adler write:

Meet the New HMO -- Same as the Old HMO

Dean Clancy is right that health reform debate is about only two basic alternatives -- the HMO or the HSA. Reform either comes with top down, authoritarian price controls and foolish attempts to control the market with bureaucratic systems like Health Maintenance Organizations, or with a thin layer of structure to allow free people to make their own decisions, as happens with Health Savings Accounts.

Chicago Organizers and the Reelection Machine

Chicago Teachers Union got the strike desired by a core group of activists, but the strike is not about the issues on the table. The strike is about who is in charge: union bosses, or the taxpayers.

Chicago Teachers Want More Than There Is

The Chicago Teachers Union went on strike Sunday night, citing such issues as compensation, health benefits, and job security. Chicago is out of money, the State of Illinois is even more out of money, and in tough economic times, no one has job security.

We All Belong to the Government

The 2012 election is setting in stark contrast the message of the two major parties. Instead of the usual choice between the lesser of two evils or the less clearly evil of two barely distinguishable choices, the two candidates will stand firmly on the ideology of their respective parties. The leftist rhetoric and agenda of the Democrats is opening up the wide, patriotic center for the Republicans to fill.

Maine Delegation at the RNC

Following a credentialling battle and unruly parliamentary challenges, a large portion of the Maine delegation to the Republican National Convention walked out in protest Tuesday.  The Maine convention had chosen 20 of its 24 delegates for Ron Paul, even though Mitt Romney had won a narrow victory in the popular vote.

Tyranny of the Majority

Chief Justice John Roberts delivered his opinion on the constitutionality of Obamacare, and has been widely hailed as either a savior of conservative jurisprudence or an unsubtle sellout in abandonment of it. Roberts clearly tried to protect the reputation of the Supreme Court. In the very act of trying, he failed to do so, and worse, failed to uphold the Constitution.
