Raising the Minimum Wage Would Hurt Those it Seeks to Aid

It seems as if every time the economy starts thriving people on the left begin repeating the same tired old tagline. They claim the economy is only working for the elite and that low-skilled workers are being denied a “living wage.” They complain of inequalities and demand government intervention in the form of minimum wage laws. Sure enough, now that the economy is thriving under the deregulatory agenda of President Trump, people on the left are once again calling for yet another minimum wage hike.

FreedomWorks is proud to announce that our bill of the month for July 2019 is the Fifth Amendment Integrity Restoration (FAIR) Act of 2019, H.R. 1895, introduced by Reps. Looking Inward to Address High Prescription Drug Costs

Prescription drug prices in America are out of control. On this, it appears nearly all Americans can agree. In order to address this pressing issue, many on the left have called for a new system of price fixing based on foreign drug prices that they claim would solve all of the problems. Yet, in their political calculus, these proponents of an international pricing index (IPI) and more stringent government regulation of healthcare seem to have discounted what has empirically been the most important tool we have. Rather than look far across the oceans to find a model to fix our problem, we need only to look inward to see what’s already working: deregulation.

When Life Hands You Lemons, the Government Will Regulate How You Use Them

In the summer of 2015, Andria and Zoey Green decided that they wanted to surprise their father with a trip to the local water park for Father’s Day. As young entrepreneurs, the girls, ages 7 and 8, decided to raise the $105 they needed by selling cold lemonade to passersby on a scorching Texas day. At the highly competitive price point of 50 cents a glass, they made more than $25 in an hour. The girl’s business was thriving, until the Overton Police decided to join the party.

FreedomWorks' Dumpster Fire of the Month for June 2019: The Transparent Drug Pricing Act, S. 977

FreedomWorks’ activist-chosen dumpster fire of the month for May 2019 is the Transparent Drug Pricing Act, S. 977. Introduced by Rep. Rick Scott (R-FL), this is yet another proposal targeted at reducing prescription drug prices in America based on the faulty logic of international price controls. Among other substantive changes to public health regulations, S. 977 would mandate that U.S. prescription drug prices “may not exceed the lowest retail list price for the drug among Canada, France, the United Kingdom, Japan, or Germany.”
