Dear FreedomWorks member,
As one of our one million-plus FreedomWorks members nationwide, I urge you to contact your representatives and ask them to cosponsor S. 1317, the Retirement Freedom Act. Introduced by Sen. DeMint (S.C.), the bill would allow individuals to choose to opt out of the Medicare part A benefit. The Retirement Freedom Act will restore seniors’ personal liberty to maintain a health care plan of their choice and save taxpayer dollars in the process.
Everyone paying attention knows that entitlement programs are on the fast track to bankruptcy. We must face the reality that the federal government simply won’t be able to keep its grand promises to future generations without drastic changes to our entitlement system. It would be morally inexcusable to force generations to pay into our broke entitlement system and ultimately get nothing in return. Individuals should be free to opt out of compulsory entitlement programs if they choose to do so.
The Retirement Freedom Act would likely save billions of taxpayers’ dollars. It is estimated that it would save $1.5 billion taxpayer dollars if only one percent of eligible seniors opted out. The savings could be much higher since it is impossible to estimate how many eligible seniors would choose to opt out. The bill would also eliminate the link between senior’s Social Security benefits and Medicare Part A. This means that a senior could opt out of Medicare Part A and still receive their Social Security benefits.
Individuals must be given the freedom to opt out of Medicare Part A. It’s a step in the right direction to restore personal liberty and self-sufficiency. Please contact your representatives and urge them to cosponsor S. 1317, the Retirement Freedom Act today.
