Champion of Freedom Leads U.S. Senate Race in Washington

Today’s Rasmussen report reveals that Dino Rossi, FreedomWorks PAC Champion of Freedom, now leads the Washington race for U.S. Senate over incumbent Democrat Patty Murray, 48-46%. This reversal of Murray’s 48-44% advantage earlier this month is even more damaging when Rasmussen includes “leaners” in their poll, moving Rossi over the threshold of 50% to Murray’s 47%.

Rasmussen on the importance of “leaners”:

Early in any campaign, the numbers without leaners are generally more significant. Later in a campaign, the numbers with leaners matter more. After Labor Day, Rasmussen Reports will report the numbers with leaners as the primary indicators of the campaign.

Rossi earned his stripes in the Washington state Senate where he worked across party lines to eliminate a huge budget deficit without raising taxes. Not only a successful legislator, Rossi has made a career in the private sector as a commercial real estate executive at Coast Equity Partners.

Murray’s record, as I said in a previous post, is quite different:

Murray, an infamous pork-barrel spender from the Appropriations Committee has been in the United States Senate since 1993. Her spendthrift ways have been predictably rewarded by the liberals in power, as she now occupies the fourth-highest leadership position in the Democratic Senate caucus. While Rossi has pledged to forgo all federal earmarks, Murray continues to run on her promise to bring pet projects home on the taxpayers’ dime.
