With the recent passing of Supreme Court Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg, President Trump is now tasked with the constitutional duty of nominating her replacement. While certainly authoring some opinions that many conservatives across the nation will find disagreeable, Justice Ginsburg was a trailblazer for women in the legal profession. Therefore, it is quite appropriate that President Trump seems poised to nominate another qualified female jurist to fill her role on the nation’s highest court.

The House of Representatives handled the impeachment of President Donald Trump in an unprecedented way, one that makes a mockery of the process and delegitimizes it as a constitutional remedy. Unfortunately, this partisan charade has continued even after the House approved both articles of impeachment.

Limited government conservatives remain disgruntled in Congress, both when in the majority and when in the minority. Republicans campaign on shrinking government, lowering taxes, embracing free markets, and upholding the constitution. But members who actually hold themselves to these promises once in Congress exist only in small pockets.

It’s no secret that Republicans have a difficult time doing what they said, but that doesn’t stop them from pretending they’re trying. True conservatives have been trying to end crony subsidies for years and the Farm Bill, H.R. 2, was supposed to be their chance to end wasteful programs that have been draining the economy since the New Deal era.

President Donald Trump is expected to announce his second Supreme Court nominee tonight at 9:00 pm. As one might expect, Democrats are losing their collective minds over Justice Anthony Kennedy’s retirement and the thought of another conservative jurist on the Court. But their primary argument for not confirming a nominee is very different from the set of circumstances that the Senate faced in 2016.

On behalf of FreedomWorks activists nationwide, I urge you to contact your representative and senators and ask them to support the Spending Cuts to Expired and Unnecessary Programs Act, H.R. 3 and S. 2979, introduced by Rep. Kevin McCarthy (R-Calif.) and Sen. Mike Lee (R-Utah). This bill would rescind the $15 billion in unobligated budget authorities from previous years that President Trump requested to Congress earlier this week in his proposal to rescind funds as provided for under the Congressional Budget and Impoundment Control Act of 1974.

Whenever Republicans run for office, they say they’re going to go to work to reduce spending and the size and scope of government. But when they arrive in Washington, to paraphrase Stephen Slivinski, many Republicans stop viewing Washington as a cesspool and treat it more like a hot tub. They get comfortable with Congress because they want to rise in the ranks of the conference, get a coveted committee like Appropriations, and work their way into committee chairmanship or a leadership position.

Last week, Speaker Paul Ryan (R-Wis.) announced that he would not seek re-election. His future had been an open question. He was essentially recruited to take the gavel of the chamber after Speaker John Boehner (R-Ohio) called it quits in October 2015.
