Congress Fulfills Boehner’s Last Betrayal of Grassroots Conservatives

Following the passage of the FY 2016 omnibus spending bill in the House of Representatives and the Senate on Friday, FreedomWorks Legislative Affairs Manager Josh Withrow commented:

“This bloated 2,000-page spending bill was crafted behind closed doors and given to members only 48 hours before they were expected to vote on it. The bill fulfills John Boehner’s last betrayal of grassroots conservatives by blowing through the 2011 spending caps to the tune of $50 billion. Increasing spending as the national debt swiftly approaches $19 trillion is simply irresponsible.”

“And while this bill does have some good provisions, such as one that prevents the Obama administration from using taxpayer funds to bail out health insurers that participate in ObamaCare, it contains others, including a bailout of the IMF and surveillance programs that put Americans’ privacy at risk.”

On Thursday, FreedomWorks released a key vote against the FY 2016 omnibus spending bill. This vote will be included our 2015 Congressional Scorecard. The scorecard is used to determine eligibility for the FreedomFighter Award, which recognizes Members of Congress who consistently vote to support economic freedom and individual liberty.
