FreedomWorks Activists Lobby for S.J. Res. 37

After a long weekend of learning how to be a better activist and learning how to continue grassroots movements in their perspective states, patriots from different states in the nation were so passionate about the cause that on Monday afternoon once the training sessions were formally over they took to Capitol Hill to lobby. The activists were led through the senate buildings by some staffers and interns from FreedomWorks and given information and talking points about the Utility MACT and S.J. Res. 37.

As the group passed security and entered the senate buildings from the entrance in the Russell building, they broke off into groups to lobby their senators. The groups included many FreedomWorks members from Pennsylvania, Florida, Ohio, Missouri, Indiana, and West Virginia. The first group from Pennsylvania went to talk to Senator Bob Casey, Jr (D) on the dangers of the Utility MACT which would bankrupt the coal industry and skyrocket energy prices throughout the country. The ladies from Florida also made stops at Senator Bill Nelson’s (D) and Senator Marco Rubio’s (R) offices. They were well received by the legislative director in Senator Nelson’s office where they had a casual conversation regarding the Utility MACT and other issues concerning Florida.  Although things were very busy in Senator Rubio’s office the ladies were warmly welcomed and told that Senator Rubio was on board with them.  The Ohio group made their way to Senator Sherrod Brown’s (D) office and asked the senator to vote in favor of S.J. Res. 37. It needs to be noted that Senator Brown’s state is one of the biggest producers of coal and his vote in regards to the Utility MACT will definitely affect his reelection bid. Other senators who were visited include Senator Claire McCaskill (MO-D), Senator Richard Lugar (IN-R), Senator Joe Manchin (WV-D), and Senator Jay Rockefeller (WV-D).

Some FreedomWorks interns also took initiative and made visits to their own senators. Interns from New York and Texas made stops at the offices of Senator Charles Schumer (D), Senator Kirsten Gillibrand (D), Senator John Cornyn (R), and Senator Kay Bailey Hutchison (R).

FreedomWorks was very pleased to assist our members in their efforts to lobby for support of S.J. Res. 37. Although it was a long weekend for some it proved to be productive and inspiring time for many of our activists that will take what they learned back home and take America back.
