FreedomWorks and Committee to Unleash Prosperity Release Updated Grades for Governor’s Coronavirus Response Report Card

WASHINGTON, D.C. — In response to actions since the launch of “Grading our Governors: A Report on Reopening States’ Economies,” FreedomWorks and the Committee to Unleash Prosperity have revised the scores of the following Governors:

Gov. Andrew Cuomo’s (D-N.Y.) “D” grade has decreased to “F”
Gov. Greg Abbott’s (R-Texas) “B” grade has increased to “A”
Gov. Gretchen Whitmer’s (D-Mich.) “F” grade has increased to “D”
Gov. Gavin Newsome’s (D-Calif.) “D” grade has increased to “C”

The updated report card can be found here.

Steve Moore, co-founder of the Committee to Unleash Prosperity, commented:

“Every state in the nation should be fully open for business today and shamefully many blue states like Illinois, New Jersey and New York still are not – despite allowing rioting and looting in the streets. We have downgraded New York Andrew Cuomo from “D” to “F” because of the coverup of the nursing home scandal. Congrats to Governor Abbott of Texas for showing other states how to open effectively and safely.”

Adam Brandon, FreedomWorks’ President, commented:

“If last week’s jobs report is any indicator, it seems the US economy has finally turned a corner. Falling unemployment signals that Americans are ready to return to work safely and responsibly. Governors such as Texas’ Abbott are leading the way, while those like Michigan’s Whitmer and California’s Newsome have finally begun to reverse their heavy-handed lockdown restrictions.

“We still must protect at-risk Americans, something which New York’s Gov. Cuomo has utterly failed to do.”
