FreedomWorks Applauds the Partial Waiver of the Jones Act

FreedomWorks President Adam Brandon released the following statement following President Trump’s announcement that he will waive the Jones Act to get help to Puerto Rico more quickly.

“This is a great decision. It takes some vision to see that a law is not doing what is intended to do. It is supposed to make sure that there is enough ability to transport goods over water during a crisis, but it does the opposite.

“The Jones Act should not only be waived for Puerto Rico, but this law that cripples our ability to transport goods over water should be repealed by Congress, and the president should take all constitutional avenues toward reducing its crippling effect.”

Weeks ago, FreedomWorks Foundations submitted public comment to the Coast Guard’s request for information to review and/or reverse in accordance with President Trump’s executive orders on regulatory reform.
