Following the reintroduction of the Federal Reserve Transparency Act by Senator Rand Paul (R-KY) in the Senate using a procedural move to bypass committee, FreedomWorks Legislative Affairs Manager Josh Withrow commented:
“Why are central bankers like Ben Bernanke and Janet Yellen trying to deceive Americans about Audit the Fed? Because they’re afraid of transparency. The Federal Reserve wields a tremendous amount of influence over the economy and, yet, there is little in the way of transparency and accountability. Audit the Fed would shine light where Americans have been previously kept in the dark.”
“The House of Representatives has passed Audit the Fed twice with overwhelming, bipartisan majorities. The Senate, however, has been a roadblock both times. Audit the Fed has been introduced in the House, where Thomas Massie’s bill boasts 185 cosponsors, and in the Senate, where Rand Paul’s newly reintroduced legislation already has 21 cosponsors. We urge leadership in both chambers to bring these bills, which enjoy strong support from Americans, up for a vote.”
