FreedomWorks Foundation Applauds Clemency Actions By President Trump

WASHINGTON, D.C. -- In response to the clemency actions taken today by President Trump, in which he granted clemency to five individuals, Adam Brandon, FreedomWorks Foundation President, commented:

"President Trump understands that a critical part of being smart on crime is rewarding those individuals who sincerely rehabilitate, and that the positive side of justice, when it is earned, is mercy.

"Each of these individuals were facing most or all the rest of their lives spent behind bars for non-violent crimes, despite the fact that each of them have worked hard to better themselves and demonstrate consistently that they deserve a second chance.

"We look forward to seeing more similar actions taken by President Trump to further advance justice in America."

FreedomWorks Foundation’s American Freedom Initiative has identified individuals serving incredibly long sentences in federal prison for non-violent offenses. Of the five individuals Trump granted clemency to Wednesday afternoon, four — Lenora Logan, Rashella Reed, Charles Tanner, and Curtis McDonald — are championed by the AFI as worthy of clemency. The cases of Charles Tanner and Curtis McDonald are further outlined here and here.
