FreedomWorks Foundation Statement Following the Release of Our State Regulatory Openness Scorecard

WASHINGTON, D.C. -- In response to the unveiling of our new State Regulatory Openness Scorecard at the ALEC Conference in Salt Lake City, Adam Brandon, FreedomWorks President, commented:

“The right of the people to ‘petition the government for redress of grievances’ is fundamental to the functioning of our republic. This is true not only of the federal government, but also those of the states. While engaging with legislators is relatively straightforward, public engagement on regulatory issues is often mired in difficulty and confusion.

“Our new State Regulatory Openness Scorecard attempts to consolidate and compare the varied state approaches to regulatory openness in an effort to better inform administrative process reform. It is our hope that this scorecard will be used by state legislators across the country to modernize and open up administrative process at the state level.

“Regulatory reform is low-hanging fruit that benefits all Americans regardless of their political affiliation. State legislatures should take note of this and make administrative process reform a priority for future legislative sessions.”
