FreedomWorks Foundation Statement in Response to the Employment Situation Report for May 2020

WASHINGTON, D.C. — In response to the Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS) release of the latest employment data for May 2020 showing a drop in unemployment from from 14.7 percent to 13.3 percent, Adam Brandon, FreedomWorks Foundation President, commented:

“We are proud of our activists and of every American who over the past weeks has demanded that the government stand down and allow our nation’s people to get back to work.

“After job losses at levels that have rocked our nation to its very core, it’s heartening to see that our efforts to #ReopenAmerica are paying off. BLS reporting the greatest monthly employment gains in history far earlier than expected in COVID-19 recovery is a direct result of the work of thousands of our activists demanding the safe, smart reopening of our economy.

“Instead of losing jobs, as many predicted, reopenings across the nation thus far led to unprecedented job gains. Although we still sit far from normal, with 2.5 million Americans gaining employment last month, our unemployment rate of 13.3 percent will hopefully only continue to drop. If things continue this way, and governors continue listening to their people, America can rebound better than ever faster than ever.”
