WASHINGTON, D.C. -- In response to the closing of the comment period on the Center for Medicare and Medicaid Services’ proposal on organ procurement, Dan Savickas, FreedomWorks Foundation Regulatory Policy Manager, commented:
“It is fantastic to see HHS finally taking action to reform our broken organ procurement system. The decision to improve outcome metrics for organ procurement organizations (OPO) will increase transparency and oversight of agencies that have thus far operated with impunity. Thousands have died waiting for transplants while these OPOs have wasted taxpayer resources.
“We are also proud to have submitted formal comments of our own, as well as driving over 700 comments from our grassroots activists, which accounted for 80 percent of total submissions. We look forward to CMS finalizing this proposal and lawmakers actually holding OPOs accountable to these metrics.”
