FreedomWorks Key Votes “NO” on the GOP Debt Ceiling Proposal, H.R. 325

Washington, DC- FreedomWorks will be activating its membership of over 2 million fiscal conservatives to contact their Representatives and demand a vote “NO” on H.R. 325, the debt ceiling legislation proposed by Republican House leadership that would raise the debt ceiling clean with no long-term budget solutions.

FreedomWorks legislative counsel Dean Clancy commented, “This proposal is more of the same. Once again, Republican leadership is negotiating with itself to temporarily bail the big spenders out by lifting the U.S. debt limit for four months, with no immediate accompanying budget reforms or spending reductions.”

Clancy continued, “It’s been almost four years since the Senate fulfilled its Constitutional responsibility to pass a budget. Our government is almost $16.5 trillion in debt. That exceeds the entire annual output of the U.S. economy and equals more than $52,000 for every citizen.”

“If that’s not scary enough, those numbers don’t include the more than $100 trillion in unfunded entitlement promises. If this pattern continues, the major credit agencies have threatened once again to downgrade our nation’s credit. This will make paying down the debt even more difficult. And amid all of this, House leadership wants to raise the debt ceiling clean? Get serious, guys. Do your jobs.”

Last week, FreedomWorks launched the website, www.DCDoYourJob.com, to combat the pressure for a clean debt ceiling raise and to give grassroots America a platform to take back its voice in the secretive, closed-door budgeting process. The message from taxpayers is clear: There should be no debt ceiling increases until Washington returns to regular order and passes a budget.

FreedomWorks is urging all members to demand that Congress resist raising the debt ceiling clean, and instead return to regular order, do their jobs, and pass a budget as required by law.
