Following a report that the Senate Judiciary Committee may consider amendments to weaken the Email Privacy Act (H.R. 699), FreedomWorks CEO Adam Brandon commented:
“The Fourth Amendment protects Americans from unreasonable searches and seizures. But as technology progressed, Congress failed to ensure that protections were in place to protect our privacy from government overreach. The Email Privacy Act brings the Fourth Amendment into the digital age.”
“The momentum for the Email Privacy Act has been years in the making. We strongly urge members of the Senate Judiciary Committee to reject poison pill amendments, such as those sponsored by Sen. Cornyn, that would undermine the privacy protections in the bill. This legislation already unanimously passed the House. We hope the Senate will swiftly pass the Email Privacy Act in its current form and send it to the president’s desk for his signature.”
