FreedomWorks Statement Ahead of Next Week’s Supreme Court Confirmation Hearings

WASHINGTON, D.C. — In anticipation of next week’s Supreme Court confirmation hearings, Adam Brandon, FreedomWorks President, commented:

“From the very first announcement of Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg’s passing, Democrats have made it clear that they will stop at nothing to block a Trump nominee to the Supreme Court. Senate Republicans know that they have the constitutional prerogative to fill the seat. Senate Democrats, however, have twisted the push to confirm Amy Coney Barrett into a partisan fight over healthcare.

“Next week’s confirmation hearings come less than a month before California v. Texas oral arguments are set to take place. No doubt, we will see Senate Democrats press Judge Barrett on how she might rule regarding the constitutionality of the Affordable Care Act’s individual mandate.

“More than anything, Democrats’ hysteric concern over the Court’s ultimate California v. Texas ruling should raise suspicion that many of their policies were never constitutional to begin with. The Court cannot create law–it can only interpret it. Voters should be wary of policymakers who cannot achieve serious, lasting laws without threatening to pack the Court with activist judges.”
