FreedomWorks Statement on President Trump’s Signing of the First Step Act

Washington, D.C. — Following President Trump’s signing of the First Step Act, FreedomWorks President Adam Brandon commented:

“President Trump’s signing of the First Step Act is monumental for the justice reform movement. Although more than 35 states have implemented criminal justice reform measures, many of which provided the basis for the First Step Act, there is still much work to be done at the federal and state level to make our prison system and sentencing laws more fair.

“The whole country should be thankful to all of those who worked tirelessly to make the dream of comprehensive federal criminal justice reform become a reality, including the leadership of President Trump. We are excited to see the next steps in this long road to a fair justice system and are eager to continue working hand in hand with the advocates that made this first step possible.”
