FreedomWorks Statement in Response to Boston Ballot Box Arson

WASHINGTON, D.C. -- In response to the ballot box arson in Boston, Adam Brandon, FreedomWorks President, commented:

“For anyone still willing to argue that widespread voting by mail is a smart and secure practice, they should take a second to reflect on the fact that this arson in Boston is the second instance of such an attack to occur within the past month. In a normal election year, ballot arson would likely never occur once, let alone twice. With large swaths of the country voting via mail ballots, it’s clear that bad actors see an opportunity to sway the results of the election--and they know exactly where to find hundreds of ballots.

“In addition to weakening voters’ trust in our nation’s ability to conduct fair and free elections, widespread voting by mail robs voters of the privacy and security that they would normally be afforded when they vote in person. Voting in person remains the best way to fight voter disenfranchisement and make sure your vote counts.”
