FreedomWorks Statement in Response to Finalized IRS Privacy Rule

WASHINGTON, D.C. — In response to the Treasury Department and the Internal Revenue Service (IRS) finalizing its donor privacy regulations for Schedule B, Adam Brandon, FreedomWorks’ President, commented:

"The rights to free speech, freedom of association, and privacy are bedrock principles of our Republic. The now finalized rule from the Department of the Treasury and Internal Revenue Service will further protect those rights by no longer requiring many 501(c) organizations to report their donors. The elimination of Schedule B reporting is a victory for all, regardless of ideological views."

"We are saddened to see some like Sen. Ron Wyden (D-Ore.) oppose this rule. Even during the latter part of President Obama’s second term, the IRS said that that Schedule B reporting was unnecessary. We will fight to protect this rule, and we urge Congress to pass legislation to protect 501(c)(3) organizations from Schedule B reporting as well."
