WASHINGTON, D.C. -- In response to the House Budget Committee’s hearing today on the FY 2021 White House Budget, Adam Brandon, FreedomWorks President, commented:
“As we all know, the biggest driver of budget deficits is mandatory spending. We appreciate the sentiment behind the President’s budget request for FY 2021 and its effort to reform and pare down many of these programs that currently run on autopilot.
“Additionally, Democrats have no ground to stand on when they criticize the administration’s spending cuts. After all, they neglected to even do their own budget last year and have said they won’t this year, too.
“However, the largest government programs-- Medicare, Medicaid, and Social Security -- remain largely untouched in the budget request aside from addressing waste, fraud, and abuse. Far more substantive reforms are needed if we are to avoid a future of perpetually rising debt and fiscal recklessness. So far, Democrats have refused to even come to the table.”
