WASHINGTON, D.C. -- In response to the introduction of the “Safeguarding Americans’ Private Records Act,” a bill that if enacted would institute sweeping reforms to the unconstitutional “USA PATRIOT Act,” which is set to expire March 15, 2020, Jason Pye, FreedomWorks’ Vice President of Legislative Affairs, commented:
“Given what has been revealed about the NSA’s and the FBI’s use of foreign intelligence surveillance powers to collect vast amounts of data on innocent Americans, Congress would be derelict in its duty if it were to reauthorize Section 215 without significant new restrictions on its use. This bill would represent a huge step towards securing our 4th Amendment due process rights against our sometimes overzealous watchmen.”
