FreedomWorks Statement in Response to President Biden’s Executive Orders Regarding Medicaid and the Affordable Care Act

WASHINGTON, D.C. — In response to President Biden’s executive orders today aimed to "strengthen" Medicaid and reopen enrollment for the Affordable Care Act (ACA), Adam Brandon, FreedomWorks President, commented:

“Much of what President Biden has done in the past week in terms of executive orders harkens back to the big government policies of President Obama. In particular, his decision to bolster the failed Affordable Care Act demonstrates that his administration is committed to doubling down on a plan that has skyrocketed costs and plummeted the quality of healthcare for Americans.

“Since the ACA’s passage, premiums have dramatically increased and Americans have been left with fewer options for healthcare. A new open enrollment period for the ACA will do nothing to address these inherent problems. Put simply, the ACA is neither affordable nor caring.

“It is also evident that President Biden’s move to ‘strengthen’ Medicaid and the ACA is simply a thinly-veiled attempt to stifle better and less expensive alternatives to government dependency. It has always been a goal of the left to put as many Americans as possible onto government healthcare plans, and this move is no different.”
