FreedomWorks Statement in Response to Recent Developments on Latest Coronavirus Relief Package

WASHINGTON, D.C. — In response to reports of potential progress in negotiations on another federal Coronavirus relief package that could exceed $1.6 trillion in new spending, Adam Brandon, FreedomWorks President, commented:

“Congress has already appropriated $357 billion to state and local governments. This $357 billion includes the Coronavirus Relief Fund (CRF), only about a third of which has so far been spent by states and local governments in response to COVID-19. State and local government revenue losses have not been nearly as bad as predicted and should be handled at the state and local level through spending cuts and continued reopening of the economy. Taxpayers from fiscally responsible states should not be on the hook for the inability of California, Illinois, and New York to get their budgets under control.”
