FreedomWorks Statement in Response to Senate Republican Rollout of HEALS Act

WASHINGTON, D.C. — In response to the rollout of the Health, Economic Assistance, Liability Protections, and Schools (HEALS) Act, Senate Republicans’ plan for the phase IV COVID-19 relief package, Adam Brandon, FreedomWorks President, commented:

"Congress has already passed four bills in response to COVID-19 at a cost of $2.4 trillion. The result of this spending and the economic disruptions caused by the pandemic is a budget deficit as a percentage of GDP not seen since the end of World War II.

“Although there are some good parts of the HEALS Act, including the liability shield and the TRUST Act, we will oppose this bill if it’s brought to the Senate floor for a vote. Republicans negotiated with themselves and produced a product that fails to include conservative priorities such as a payroll tax holiday, decoupling health savings accounts from high-deductible health plans, and school choice."
